Henry Clay Trumbull correspondence, 1849-1887.

The collection consists of letters to Henry Clay Trumbull from his mother Sarah, his father Gurdon, and brother Tom; letters from Sarah to Alice C. Trumbull, Henry's wife; and letters from Henry to his father and mother and several other unidentified individuals. The letters generally cover family news, but evolve into discussions of politics and later still news from the front during the Civil War where Henry was chaplain to the 10th Connecticut Volunteers. One interesting letter, 9 August 1885, described the funeral of General Grant. Trumbull was a noted author, clergyman, and advocate for Sunday School education.
